WCMSSM Alliance Annual
Report to the MSMS Alliance Delegates
The officers were
installed at the annual meeting on May 27th by Lakshmi
Tummala, President of MSMSA. This is the first time that this Alliance
had two presidents.
The Alliance met
November 12th at the YMCA Interim House for a luncheon
meeting. Members donated and delivered three fully packed vans and many
car loads of food, clothing, baby cribs, car seats, bed sheets, cleaning
items and toys. We donated the booklets “Hands are not for Hitting” and
“You Don’t Have to be Bullied” for distribution to the children by the
counselors.
The Interim House
is our one big continuous project due our small membership base. Mrs.
Helen Ermete and Norma Henderson’s Committee delivered turkey and
trimmings to the Women and Children on Thanksgiving Day. For the
Christmas holidays they wrapped 40 gifts for the children and another 50
presents for the women. The committee is now working on Easter baskets
for the residents. The Alliance will make a two hundred dollar donation
to the Interim House for their special needs during our Board meeting in
the spring.
We donated the
booklets “Hands are not for Hitting” and “You Don’t Have to be Bullied”
for the WCMSSM Children’s Christmas party to be distributed in the gift
bags. Alliance member Mrs. Judy Barbour assisted Santa.
Alliance,
past President Mrs. Alice Haidostian provided the piano entertainment
for Alliance, past President, 1964-65, Mrs. Nell Rhoades’ 100th
birthday party held at the Detroit Yacht Club in October. The birthday
party was hosted by Michigan Academy of Family Physicians, Michigan
Academy of Family Physicians Foundation, Wayne County Medical Society,
Wayne County Medical Society Foundation and the WCMS Alliance. Mrs.
Rhoades sponsors the annual Rhoades lecture series in March.
I attended the AMA
Alliance Leadership Conference in Chicago and the National Advocacy Day
and the AMA Alliance Capital Conference in Washington DC. Fellow MSMS
Alliance members, MSMS Staff and physician officers as well as WCMS
staff met with Congressmen Mark Schauer, Peter Hoekstra, Gary Peters,
Mike Rogers, Sander Levin and Fred Upton and Senator Carl Levin.
The Alliance is on
the agenda at the WCMSSM Executive Council meetings. I am also invited
to attend and attended various WCMSSM committee meetings. A special
thanks to the executive director, Adam Jablonowski and his able staff.
Our website is currently being updated with the assistance of the
Society.
The Alliance will
hold their luncheon meeting on March 18th at the Westin Book
Cadillac Detroit Hotel. We have a dynamic speaker that has researched
guardianship and conservatorship abuses. The speaker, Tracey Burnstein,
will present an informational and wakeup call program to physicians,
spouses and hospitals entitled “How Probate and Advanced Directives May
Impact You: Personally and Professionally”.
A fund raising
event is being planned for the late spring.
