Wayne County Medical Society Alliance Updates
By
Pooja Singla, MA, MBA
President, Wayne County Medical Society of Southeast Michigan Alliance
I am
delighted to report the exciting activities that the WCMSSM alliance had
been doing. First of all, I would like to welcome all our new members
to come on-board and helping the alliance add to its strength. The
membership has increased 27% compared to last year. I am really proud
of our members’ involvement and that we can count on them.
We encourage our
members to browse the website, send articles, ideas to enhance the site
for its maximum utility. All ideas are welcome and they will be
published on the webpage.
The first meeting of
Board was held on July 18th when Mrs. Meenu Gulati
volunteered to chair the membership committee and Mrs. Clara Sumeghy
will update the directory of members. Mrs. Felicity Thompson
introduced Resident spouse Mrs. Tara Peterson who would help with
resident spouse membership. She also agreed to continue to support our
on-going project on ‘Hands are Not For Hitting’ and ‘I can Handle
Bullies’ by reaching out to schools.
The society has
donated to the interim house approximately $1000 stuff in the form of
toiletries, clothing, toys, skates, food, etc. Ms. Rekha Naik and Pooja
Singla made a trip to the Interim house on July 25th. Mrs.
Helen Ermete delivered T-shirts, towels and food items to help with the
summer camp for 40 kids on August 13.
We also supported the
‘Smoke free Hollywood Movies rated G, PG, PG13’ campaign. We received
lots of signatures on the Petition Form from various venues in favor of
banning smoking in the movies for children.
We are now working
closely with Oakland county and Washtenaw county alliances. Mrs. Pooja
Singla met with Kitty Prasad (Oakland county alliance president) and
Catherine Adams (Washtenaw county alliance president). A Tri-County
event is being planned in February 2008 with some exciting activities.
Mrs. Singla also attended Oakland county alliance meeting on September
11.
Mrs. Singla attended
the Wayne County Executive Council meeting on September 12 at Hyatt
Hotel, Dearborn. I appreciate the opportunity to meeting with our
doctors. Dr. Sophie Womack, President, WCMS, is excited to work with
the alliance. Dr. Marsh volunteered to help the alliance with
membership. Dr. Susan Adelman, also a world class artist, offered her
studio and her house to host the Annual International Fall Luncheon. We
sincerely thank to all of our doctors for their encouragement. There
was a good discussion on holding a family event for all the physicians
and spouses to meet n’ greet other members. The increase communication
was emphasized.

membership and their sincere involvement to accomplish our goals as we
set new goals, and to prove our mission.
