Wayne County
Medical Society of Southeast Michigan
Alliance Update
PRESIDENT’S REPORT/
NEWSLETTER - 3
Pooja G. Singla, MA,
MBA
I am
ecstatic to give updates on the WCMS Alliance for this past quarter. A
number of different activities brought a lot of excitement including
the Legislative updates at the Capitol check up on September 19th,
Annual Fall Potluck Luncheon and Doctors and their Families Make a
Difference Day on October 24th, and most importantly, the
collaboration of Wayne County Medical Society Alliance with Oakland
County and Washtenaw County Medical Society Alliance.
First
of all, on behalf of Pooja Singla, President, and the WCMS Alliance,
sincere thanks go to all the alliance members, their guests, Medical
society officers, MSMSA officers, and our hosts Lilly Khanna, Dr. Susan
Hershberg Adelman for their support for opening their homes for us to
make the happenings possible. The Alliance met on August 18, September
17, September 27, and October 24. Pooja Singla attended the Capitol
Check-Up at the Raddison Hotel in Lansing on September 19, 2007, and the
WCMS Legislative updates meeting on September 27th. She also
attended the WCMS Foundation Board meeting.

YWCA Interim House Support:
We
continue to support the YWCA interim house. We collected toys, skates,
clothing, toiletries, purse, food items and more. We also provided
T-shirts and towels to help with their summer camp this year for 40
children. We continue to provide them with the goods as needed. I
really appreciate Helen Ermete to volunteer for the delivery of goods to
the interim house.
Annual Fall Potluck Luncheon and Doctors and their Families Make a
Difference (DFMD) Day:
This
year, the Annual Fall Potluck Luncheon was held at Dr. Susan
Hershberg Adelman’s Studio/Home on Wednesday, October 24, 2007.
Dr. Adelman is an artist who exhibits her creativity in a unique way.
The attendees enjoyed her gallery of paintings, her wood carving, her
jewelry making with precious and semi precious stones from around the
world, and more. Mr. Adam Jablonowski and Mr. Jason Riske made special
efforts to attend the meeting. They gave Health Policies updates and
Legislative Updates to the Alliance members. We request the members to
voice against the Helmet law repeal, and Medicaid cuts to the doctors
practices.
The
food was excellent and our special thanks to all the members who
prepared different kinds of mouth-watering dishes for us.
The
DFMDD bags were given out to the members for future collection as well
as we collected some money to give out to support the interim house for
the same. Halloween candies were distributed to bring a smile to some
41 kids at the Interim House.
Following Pictures
taken on October 24, 2007 at the event include some of the attendees.

Supporting AMA’s Campaign for Smoke Free Hollywood Movies rated G,
PG, PG13
Pooja
Singla had collected about 50 signatures on the petition for banning
smoking in the Hollywood movies rated G, PG, PG13. The petition forms
were given to Health Promotion Committee Chair Mrs. Mary Lou Mathaias.
The signatures are still being collected in the neighborhoods, work
places, health centers and we are getting good support of people for
this.
Membership:
Alliance goal at the beginning of the year was to increase the
membership. I am glad to report that the membership has increased 30%
from last year and we are hoping the consistent increase and support of
our members in the coming months. We have more members joining the
Alliance in the past month. We welcome Mrs. Chitra Karnani, Mrs. Geeta
Mohey, Mrs. Promila Sharma as our newest members to the Alliance.
Collaboration with other counties’ Alliance:
We,
as alliance, emphasize the importance of team work. The successful
meetings among Wayne, Oakland and Washtenaw Counties’ Alliance
Presidents resulted in planning for our first combined Tri-County Event
on February 12, 2008. Time and place to be decided. The event is
planned to bring all three Alliance members come together for a stronger
association. I look forward to a fun filled event on the 12th
of February, 2008. The attendees will have an opportunity to get some
‘Energy inflowing’ tips from a Feng Shui Maestro, and delicious
appetizing creativity from Mrs. Kitty Prasad, President of Oakland
County MS Alliance, who is also a world class chef.
Partnering with Medical Society:
Alliance is excited to help with any or all upcoming events organized by
the Wayne County Medical Society of Southeast Michigan. For instance,
we will be helping with gift wrapping, welcoming guests to the Christmas
Party at the Detroit Science Center on the 8th of December,
2007. I ask for volunteer help. The event will support 200 under
privileged children. The volunteers will be helping with their check
in, supervising, help at the tables, serving lunch, etc.
Website:
To improve communications and to keep all the
members well informed our website is in place now. The website can be
accessed from Wayne county medical society’s home page (
www.WCMSSM.org ) as well as
www.MSMS.org. We make continuous efforts to
update the website and keep it current with the happenings.
