Dr. Nicolas K. Fletcher is a physician and healthcare leader focused on transforming medicine through strategic leadership, organizational innovation, and community partnerships. As President of the Wayne County Medical Society, he is leading the organization through one of the most significant transitions in its history — reimagining an independent, physician-centered, community-connected, mission-driven county medical society to meet the evolving challenges facing the practice of medicine in Southeast Michigan.
Dr. Fletcher brings expertise spanning clinical care, scientific research, healthcare administration, public health, grassroots advocacy, and national medical leadership. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Howard University, a Doctor of Medicine from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, a Master of Health Services Administration from the University of Michigan School of Public Health, and a Certificate in Population Health and Health Equity. His Wayne County-based residency training provided deep, hands-on clinical and administrative experience throughout the Detroit metropolitan area. Earlier in his career, he spent nearly a decade in biotechnology and pharmaceutical research, supporting multinational Phase I–III vaccine and drug development trials.
Throughout his career, Dr. Fletcher has been drawn to organizations undergoing transformation. He has been elected to and served in national leadership roles with the American Medical Association, the American Psychiatric Association, the American Association for Community Psychiatry, the Michigan State Medical Society, and numerous nonprofit and civic organizations. In each setting, he has helped guide strategic planning, organizational governance, policy development, stakeholder engagement, and leadership development.
A champion for medical advocacy, Dr. Fletcher believes physicians have an essential responsibility not only to care for individual patients but also to strengthen the institutions, policies, and communities that shape public health.
As President of the Wayne County Medical Society, Dr. Fletcher is focused on building a modern, collaborative organization that delivers measurable value to physicians across all specialties and career stages. His vision emphasizes strengthening physician leadership, expanding personal and professional development opportunities, and fostering impactful public and private partnerships throughout Southeast Michigan’s robust, comprehensive, and integrated healthcare systems, academic institutions, private practices, and community organizations.
Under his leadership, the Society aims to become the leading professional home for physicians and physician trainees in Wayne County while serving as a trusted voice on issues affecting medicine, healthcare, and public health. His vision is straightforward: a stronger physician community, a healthier Wayne County, and a medical society that is innovative, influential, and prepared for the future.
